Do you believe in gut feelings ?! I sure do! Our belly is a sensitive yet powerful place. The gut houses 70 percent of our immune system and contains 300-500 different species of bacteria. That is more cells than you have in your body! Crazy right?! We rely on the good bacteria to keep the bad bacteria in check- if this is out of balance it can lead to things like leaky gut, ulcers, IBS and more. This is why pre-biotics and pro-biotics are so important! Studies have even found links between your gut and your brain, affecting your mood, emotions and senses. Powerful right?! It makes sense to why we get intuitive feelings in our gut. On the chakra level, our solar plexus rules our self-confidence, empowerment and vitality. Are you seeing the links here?
My belly has always been a place of insecurity for me so focusing on this work has been very important on my personal journey. When my digestion in working smoothly, I feel so much more vibrant and energetic. And on an emotional level, I feel much more confident. In yoga, I have learned to give my belly some love with twisting practices, abdominal strengthening, and Uddiyana Bandha work. Uddiyana Bandha is a powerful tool you can incorporate into any yoga practice (see video). It increases gastric fire, improves digestion & elimination, and helps rid the digestive tract of toxins!

Foods to support a healthy microbiome:
Foods with inulin (prebiotic)- Sunchokes, red onions, leeks, chicory root (shout out to herbal coffee!), asparagus, garlic
Fermented foods- Miso, kimchi, sauerkraut, other pickled veggies
Ginger
Bananas
Brussel sprouts
Peas
Kombucha!
Olive Oil

Leafy greens- spinach, kale, collard greens, etc
